beth: 1, kryptonite: 0.
yesterday i successfully stole my bike. upon leaving my eye doctor appointment the other day, i had an altercation with my bike lock, bent my key, and had to walk 3 miles home. i returned later with some household oil and my spare key. still wouldn't open. then i went back with some DW-40, and it still wouldn't open. i was wondering if in fact my spare key was my spare key...and sadly realized it wasn't. i had successfully broken my only key and my poor old motobecane was hangin' out all alone on grand avenue in oakland for a couple of days. i surly thought someone would steal either my bell, yellow cable housing, or kickstand...but i was very lucky.
i got fred's hacksaw and headed down there yesterday. and fifteen minutes later sawed through that kryptonite shit. i was really surprised it didn't take me longer.
i guess steeling bikes is a lot easier than i thought. yikes!
(this is a video someone shared with me. yikes. i guess i used method #2. but he only took 6 minutes....but i am guessing a chain is easier to cut?)

There's your problem Beth: you want to use WD40 not DW40. That stuff probably FROZE the lock rather lubricating....
Alright, a woman with tools! Power tools are next.
Yellow cable housing is nice. I think it would look great on the Gunnar :-) Gots me lots o'that, both for brakes and shifters.
couldn't you bend your key back...with a hammer?
After all that sawing I think we need an updated bicep measurement.
i thought that image was your new skin suit! cool i thought...
did anyone ask you what you were doing while you were sawing through your lock? or did you saw through the top tube?
btw, a locksmith can un-bend a key. I had it done last week.
Where's Hector when you need him
I tripped out on this video watching how the guy pulls out all sorts of tools to steal the bikes and the people around him just go about their business. Call me paranoid but I always stick close to my bike or have a friend bike-sit while I go get something to eat or use the bathroom. Unfortunately, I have only one bike and can't afford to buy another one (unlike Andrew's friend who had a $12,000 bike stolen while exiting a Bart station so he just went and bought another expensive one. Sheesh!)
